Our team is our greatest asset, and we love to showcase the wonderful work they do. The day-to-day of the helpdesk can be incredibly hectic, but also very rewarding. Consistently going above and beyond for our clients creates trust between our team and the people we work with. Business Applications Consultant Lewis Crawford gives you an insight into a typical day for him within the Escone Solutions team.
Morning
My day typically begins with a 7 am alarm. I get ready and head into the office arriving around 8:15 or 8:30 am. Once I’m caffeinated and settled, I go through my emails and write a to-do list with the aim of ticking off outstanding jobs from the day. I work primarily with clients to help them get the most out of their systems, as well as develop our Finance BI solution. We’re trying to make their lives easier and help take the stress out of their daily operations from a systems perspective, so a lot of my day is spent problem-solving and troubleshooting specific system issues, or scoping amendments or new builds for our new and potential clients.
Lunch
I usually spend lunchtime at Results Gym, which is next door to the office. A 45-minute workout breaks up the day and allows some time to myself. I get back to my desk about 2 pm.
Afternoon
Afternoons usually include meetings with clients and team members, which often result in more work to add to the to-do list! The very nature of our job means that we face challenges every day, most of which come in the form of helpdesk tickets that need to be addressed within specific time frames. Increasingly though it’s more project-related problem solving, with wider deadlines and longer ongoing scopes of work. My role means that I’m learning every day, and hopefully, there will never be a time when I’m not learning something new. Recently I’ve been focusing on how to manage workload over longer projects, as opposed to helpdesk tickets where I’d be managing several in a day. One of the highlights of my day is catching up with colleagues over a coffee mid-afternoon. It gives us a chance to have a chat and catch up with what’s going on.
Evening
My evenings are typically quite sport-based. I head home around 5 pm, have a quick bite to eat and shoot off either to play football or darts. My friends and I have a five-a-side team which competes in a Tuesday night league, and some of us play darts for the local pub team on Mondays. If I’m not playing football or darts, you can usually find me watching one or other on TV. Once home, I relax for a while, either in front of the TV or by reading. The current viewing for my girlfriend and I is ‘Inside No.9’, a BBC drama quite like Black Mirror.
