Darren joined Escone Solutions in 2022 and is part of the Escone Assist team, working as a Business Applications Support Analyst. Initially, Darren joined Escone as part of his university placement working predominantly within the business’s Marketing and Business Development side. Then once he had finished his studies at Robert Gordon University (RGU) an opportunity arose for Darren to join the team full-time, and he hasn’t looked back since. Darren has become a mainstay in the Escone Assist team as well as using his knowledge gained from university to also contribute to the marketing efforts of the organisation.
How long have you worked at Escone and what is your role?
Initially, I got involved with Escone as a Marketing placement student in April 2022 for one month, I then joined the team part-time during my master’s dissertation in June 2022 and then on a full-time basis in October 2022 as a Business Applications Support Analyst.
Throughout this time, I have also contributed to Escone’s marketing by increasing its social media presence, particularly on LinkedIn, and re-integrating the organisation into networking events across the North East of Scotland.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
The variety – I cover four different departments of the company, so each day is different. I have also had my first opportunity to provide marketing support to a company on a long-term basis – to see the efforts made from this contribute to the growth of the company has been very satisfying.
Which of Escone’s core values do you align with most?
Collaborative – I work with nearly all the departments within the company, and I try to maintain continuous improvement in a variety of roles.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given in your career?
Learn to Adapt – While working in a variety of roles and abroad, I have always strived to be as adaptable as possible; it is with this strength that I can jump from department to department in my current position with ease.
What is your dream holiday location?
Banff, Canada, Wyoming, USA, or Tokyo, Japan—these are all places I have had on a bucket list for several years, and after ticking off the likes of New York, etc., these are now next!
What phone app could you not live without?
X (Formerly Twitter). – I have had an account since 2010 so am far too used to it now to change, I get most of my footballing news from there.
Favourite film/TV series
The Sopranos – A masterpiece. Don’t think it will ever be topped.
Book or podcast? Which do you prefer and what would you recommend?
Due to my long commute to work, I listen to audiobooks and podcasts. My most recent listen was the 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lemmington.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Ability to communicate with animals – I have always had empathy and compassion for animals due to having pets over the years. I personally like to try and resolve any problems that I initially find difficult. It is also a life goal of mine to own a golden retriever one day!
